Training to Become an Equine Dental Practitioner Certified by IGFP e.V.

The IGFP e.V. does not offer formal training programs itself. Instead, we organize a conference, workshops, and certification examinations. We promote equine dentistry through an annual award at our conference and actively participate in equine health fairs and exhibitions – often featuring our walk-in model of the equine oral cavity (affectionately known as “Mathilde”) along with other educational exhibits and smaller informational booths.

Introductory workshops can be booked through our website.

These are ideal for gaining initial experience in the field.

There are various pathways to become an equine dental practitioner. We recommend starting by working as an assistant to an IGFP-certified equine dental practitioner. This offers valuable hands-on experience with a wide range of horses — examining and, where appropriate, treating them under supervision.

Here you can find a list of certified practitioners in your area.

There are also structured training programs offered by several institutions, including:

  • Horse Dental School (Germany)
  • Academy of Equine Dentistry (Idaho, USA)
  • The American School of Equine Dentistry
  • Equine Dental School of Texas
  • Midwest Equine Dental School

To become a fully certified Equine Dental Practitioner according to IGFP e.V., and to be authorized to use the IGFP logo, you must pass the official certification exam. Prior to registering for the exam, you must become a member of the IGFP.

Our website provides public access to all relevant documents, including:

  • Examination regulations
  • Guidelines for certification
  • Bylaws
  • Membership and contribution regulations

Registered members also have access to additional materials, including theoretical exam preparation resources, in the members-only area.
